SAVE FLORIDA'S BROMELIADS CONSERVATION PROJECT
These are summaries of research performed by scientists, students, and citizen-scientists that help us better understand the Mexican bromeliad weevil (Metamasius callizona) and Florida's bromeliads. This knowledge helps us better conserve these plants.
New summaries will be added to this page regularly.
How Bad is the Weevil?
Case study: The Enchanted Forest Sanctuary
When the Mexican bromeliad weevil first came to Florida, it was obvious that the weevil was very destructive to the giant airplant, Tillandsia utriculata. This is a series of videos that discusses research done at the Enchanted Forest Sanctuary (Titusville, Brevard County) to quantify the weevil's destructiveness.
